On August 8, 2012, North Miami was hit with a cold reminder of the potential danger of a fatal car accident when driving.  Enrique Linares was killed when he crashed his car the wall of a nursing home.  Mr. Linares was killed upon impact.  Several residents of the nursing home sustained minor injuries.  Investigations revealed that neither drugs nor alcohol played a role in the car crash.  However, North Miami police did note that Mr. Linares was likely traveling approximately twice the 35 mile per hour speed limit.  This story reminds us that safe driving and obeying speed limits are often just as important as not operating a vehicle while under the influence of drugs and/or alcohol.  Mr. Linares was a young man and this automobile accident took his life prematurely.

As of 2007, North Miami had approximately 60,000 residents ranking it the fourth largest city in Miami-Dade County.  Historically, with only a few exceptions, North Miami has not exceeded the average fatalities statistics for the State of Florida in car accidents.
